Caída Libre
Guest illustrator by LaCimbra
Caída Libre is an "exquisite corpse" of comics by a group of artist in Colombia, in which I participated as a guest illustrator. In this graphic exercise each participant received the final fragment of another person's comic as a starting point to create a new story. The general theme was the collective feeling of free fall (Caída Libre) that we experienced at the beginning of the pandemic.
I wanted to share what quarantine was initially like for me. I was inspired by the theory of the 4 burners. Where your life is represented by a stove. And each burner is a part of it: Health, Work, Family, Friends.
But it is very difficult to keep all the fires burning... You have to decide at any given moment between two, if you want to be successful in any of them.
I was caught up in the daily challenge of maintaining the work-family balance. And all of a sudden all this news and measures came in, which filled us with uneasiness. After a while I realize what my "new reality" looked like. I found myself within a very simple image of daily life, and the extra time I was able to share with my son. This was something I had been looking forward to since my maternity leave was over. But I hadn't found a way to make it a reality. I think it's a dilemma that many parents face, it's a very complicated balancing act.
